Carney’s complete game earns him Pitcher of the Day

Cameron Carney (Tusculum) earned NYCBL Pitcher of the Day honors for June 18 after his complete-game shutout against the Geneva Twins.

Carney went all seven innings, rarely putting himself in trouble as he only allowed four Twins to reach base, two via walk and two recording base hits. He also recorded three strikeouts, with two coming against one of the best hitters in the league in Connor Simonetti.

Known for his workhorse mentality, Carney’s efficiency has gone up since he began in the league. He faced 33 batters and threw 137 pitches in his first outing of the season, another seven-inning, complete-game win over the Wellsville Nitros.

Thursday afternoon, he only faced 25 batters, his lowest total of the season, and threw 84 pitches (56 strikes).

Also, when batters reached, he kept them from advancing as only two runners moved to second and no Twins player was able to get to third base.,
