Soria earns Hitter of the Day honors

Shane Soria is on fire to start his 2015 NYCBL campaign and was recognized for his efforts on Wednesday night by being named the Hitter of the Day.

He finished the day going 3-for-6, with a triple and a pair of RBI as well as two runs scored in Wednesday’s sweep of the Wellsville Nitros.

Soria singled in game one of Wednesday’s doubleheader on a dropped third strike after roping a single to start the game. That would prove to be the game-winning run in a 1-0 victory.

In game two, it was Soria providing the big blow. After Tage Johnston scored on an error, leaving runners on second and third, Soria laced a triple down the left field line, scoring both Drew Farmer and Armando Valentin to give Rochester some breathing room at 3-0.

The Westmont College attendee I’m the fall would then score on a sacrifice fly by the next batter, Ryan O’Hearn.

After batting .500 to start the season, head coach Joe Schallenberger commended Soria for his leadership, as he is the lone returning player from the 2014 version of the ball club.,
